OC San is currently looking to fill the role of a Source Control Inspector II.
Under direct or general supervision or direction, performs a variety of technical duties in support of the District’s source control program to verify compliance of all local and federal regulations and meet the end goals of the Resource Protection Division in protecting public health, the environment, OC San infrastructure and operations, and reuse initiatives. Work involves performing field inspection and sampling, compliance assessments, and enforcement and proceedings applicable to of water quality, pollution control, and overall environmental protection; inspecting, monitoring, tracking, and identifying sources of pollutants discharged or potentially discharged to the sewer system; inspecting, monitoring, and tracking EPA categorical industries for compliance with District discharge permit regulations, the District Wastewater Discharge Ordinance, and EPA guidelines; participating in a variety of programs for the protection of public health and safety; and incorporating public education in daily work.
Qualifications & Requirements
The successful candidate will possess:
High school diploma or G.E.D., supplemented by two (2) years of college level coursework in chemistry or a related field; AND
Three (3) years of experience inspecting industrial processes at a level comparable to a Source Control Inspector I with the District.
Valid California Class C Driver’s License.
Valid Grade II Environmental Compliance Inspector Certification from the California Water Environment Association.
If candidates for this position do not currently possess the above certificate, the selected candidate must obtain the certification within 6 months of his/her date of hire. Information about CWEA testing is accessible here.

Supplemental Information
Physical Demands
Must possess mobility to work in industrial and commercial sites to perform inspections; ability to travel to various District sites, projects and/or meetings; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; color vision to identify chemical and biological solvents and substances; and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone. Employees primarily work indoors but frequently walk around industrial and commercial sites to take samples. Finger dexterity is needed to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer keyboard or calculator and to handle sampling equipment. Employees must possess the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects up to 40 pounds, or heavier weights with the use of proper equipment.
Environmental Elements
Employees work partially indoors and partially outdoors and are exposed to loud noise levels, cold and hot temperatures, inclement weather conditions, vibration, chemicals, and hazardous physical substances, odors, and fumes. Employees may interact with upset staff and/or public and private representatives and contractors in interpreting and enforcing departmental policies and procedures.
Disaster Service Workers
All OC San employees are designated Disaster Service Workers through state law (California Government Code Section 3100-3109). Employment with the OC San requires the affirmation of a loyalty oath to this effect. Employees are required to complete all related training as assigned, and to return to work as ordered in the event of an emergency.
